State and Privacy  The World's Greatest Joke

We exist in a world where words "security" and "privacy" have become candy that is thrown around on any Halloween. Everywhere you turn, someone makes oaths to offer you "the best security" and "complete privacy". Needless to say, security and privacy have emerged as a joke, which the whole world seems to share.

Let me tell you why.

The Fantasy of Security

When was the last time you actually felt safe online? We live in a world where even the largest corporations with billions of dollars in security budgets get hacked. Companies promise that their apps and platforms are "secure," yet, time and again, we hear about another breach where millions of user records are stolen. Passwords, credit card details, social security numbers-all of them up for grabs.

The truth is, no matter how secure a system claims to be, there is someone out there right now working on how to break it. That's how the game goes-one side builds a wall and another works out how to climb over. And guess who is winning?

Privacy  A Thing of the Past

Remember when privacy was considered a basic right? Now, it feels more like a distant memory. Our data is always collected, analyzed, and sold with or without consent. Everything is tracked: every click, every search, every post. It's really a joke to think we ever had anything to do with the control of our data. It has been that way with social media companies. They will be able to predict our actions, understand our preferences, and eventually even manipulate our feelings just by giving us the right presentation of a few ads.

Security and Privacy Are Not For Sale

So, what does one do in a world where security and privacy feel like a punchline to a bad joke? Here are a few thoughts

Stay Informed   Knowledge is power. Understand the risks and take steps to protect yourself.  But not safe
Take Control    Avail yourself of tools that can help you retain some level of privacy. Encrypt your data, use strong passwords, and think before you share.   But not safe
Demand Change   As users, we have the power to demand better from the companies we entrust with our data.
But not safe
Don't just accept the status quo  push for transparency and accountability. But not safe

After all, in the end, security and privacy may be the world's best joke, but it is a joke each and every one of us has to take seriously. This is one area where perfect security or complete privacy just may not be possible.

see you later.👀
